High-density storage is an essential component of most oil rigs’ food service strategy. In the past, most rigs simply purchased the cheapest compact storage solution. This became a problem, though, particularly because rigs aren’t stationary: they’re built on land and then towed out to sea, and they must withstand substantial movement during towing and heavy storms.

In an effort to create a more enduring food storage solution, an architect contacted his local Spacesaver consultant. They teamed up with Spacesaver engineers to design a safe, practical solution to stand the test of time: a stainless steel ActivRAC® Mobilized Storage System fitted with a unique Engineered-To-Order bar that locks the system in place.

The system is being used to store foods in the galley and the walk-in refrigerator.

Spacesaver can manufacture Engineered-To-Order stainless steel tread flooring for use in sterile supply areas, retail settings, and any other location that requires the functionality or appearance of stainless steel tread.

The solution pictured below increased a hospital’s soft supply storage capacity by 26 percent while saving time and improving organization.

Spacesaver accessories optimize space at an elementary school

An elementary school needed an organized, efficient storage system that would allow teachers to spend more time planning and preparing for class, and less time searching for equipment and supplies.

While the LEVPRO compact shelving system appealed to the school’s physical education teachers, they needed to customize the standard kit to maximize space inside the unit. Any of Spacesaver’s 4-Post shelving accessories can be added to the LEVPRO system, and the school opted for bin fronts, hooks and dividers on heavy-duty support rails, and additional shelves (standard LEVPRO kits come with four shelves per shelving unit).

By maximizing the available space and storing similar items together, staff can quickly and easily find what they need.

Workbenches help protect, organize, and deploy tools and gear

In conjunction with the U.S. military, Spacesaver has developed a series of cabinets that also serve as workbenches. The workbenches are fitted with drawers of various sizes, which can hold tools, weapons, and other gear and supplies.

All the workbenches feature sturdy butcher block tops that allow the cabinets to be used for equipment cleaning, repair, inventory, and other tasks. The tops are removable and replaceable, providing the opportunity to create a new work surface years after the initial purchase and installation.

Instructors and trainees at the Coast Guard Special Missions Training Center, based out of Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, needed a way to store wetsuits and other gear during and after training programs. The instructors knew from prior experience that lockers would begin to rust and leak if they were exposed to saltwater.

The Spacesaver team designed and installed full-height lockers for instructors and a two-tiered locker system for students. The bottoms of the lockers are lined with stainless steel trays to prevent brackish water buildup, rust, and leaks.

Spacesaver’s energy-efficient LED lighting system illuminates the books on each shelf and the steel shelving frames enclose a hollow conduit to provide space for electrical wiring. The end result is a complete, self-contained solution.

Spacesaver helps a hospital gain 38% more storage space

A hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, used a surgical supply room renovation as an opportunity to create a storage system that would optimize space and allow staff to use their time more efficiently.

The project planning team decided to install LEVPRO, a storage system that consists of shelving units that can be rolled along an overhead track.

The new LEVPRO system allowed the sterile storage area to gain 38% more space for storing surgical kits and other operating room supplies — and the system simplifies cleaning routines because the shelving units “levitate” above the floor.

These photos show how it works: Spacesaver’s inverted weapons bracket securely stores five M4s with M320s across the top, and five more M4s are stored barrel up, staggered between the inverted weapons.

When the Hill Air Force Base needed to store new parts and components for the next generation F-35 aircraft, they turned to the local Spacesaver consultant for a compact solution that would accommodate their changing storage requirements.

The Spacesaver consultant drew up a plan that would repurpose the base’s existing high-density rails and carriages, as well as the shelving uprights, from three different areas and consolidate them in one room.

Because some of the new items to be stored were quite large, the consultant recommended ordering Spacesaver’s new 72”-wide 4-Post shelving, which can accommodate items up to about 70 inches wide. A thermoplastic paint coating was applied to comply with requirements to prevent metal-on-metal contact between the aircraft parts and the shelving.
