The Blue Springs Police Department, located in suburban Kansas City, Missouri, needed a secure and convenient way to store officers’ long guns. The concept was to store the officers’ shotguns, sighted rifles, and other gear in a hallway near the patrol parking lot, so officers
would not need to carry these items into the patrol briefing room,
the locker rooms, or other areas of the police department.

Spacesaver offers a standard handgun and long gun cabinet, as well as a five-gun long gun cabinet, but the police chief preferred this engineered-to-order solution. It consists of a series of standalone cabinets that each store two levels of five guns, or ten guns total. Every police officer is assigned a compartment, and each cabinet also has a single large door that can be opened to provide access to all ten compartments at once. In case of an emergency, the police chief or the assistant chief can easily open entire cabinets, providing quick and convenient access to all the weapons stored inside.

The convenience and efficiency of the ActivRAC® Mobilized Storage System is particularly well-suited to cold storage and freezer facilities, where space is at a premium due to high cooling costs. ActivRAC has been steadily gaining popularity in beverage distributorships and other cold storage applications, and now Spacesaver’s Engineering Team has developed an electronic control system for use in freezers down to -20 degrees F. This option allows facility managers to optimize storage space while maintaining the highest standards of organization and selectivity.

This option is currently available as an engineered-to-order (ETO) solution, and Spacesaver expects to officially launch the product later this year. ColdPAK is available for the ActivRAC 30P, which can accommodate up to 30,000 pounds per carriage section, the ActivRAC 16P, which can hold up to 16,000 pounds per carriage section, and the ActivRAC 7P, which can hold up to 7,000 pounds per carriage section.

Spacesaver is expanding its popular WRX Wheels line to include a single-sided transportable storage unit. These units offer the convenience and flexibility of our existing WRX Wheels products, along with the space-saving option of being stored against a wall.

Our brackets are manufactured from heavy-duty steel and are vinyl-dipped to protect the weapons’ finish. They can be fitted to Spacesaver’s steel backpanels or support rail, which allows them to be installed in our personal storage lockers, 4-post shelving, Universal Weapons Racks, and most of our other storage and shelving products.

In rare cases, a client needs a heavy-duty carriage-and-rail system but the building’s floor cannot be penetrated due to tensioning cables in the floor, electrical cables, or other factors. To accommodate clients with these constraints, Spacesaver engineers developed a method that allows rail systems to be installed and secured with high-strength epoxy instead of anchors in concrete.

While this system allows rails to be installed without penetrating the floor, it does require that additional concrete be poured between the rails to provide sufficient lateral stability. This can pose significant logistical challenges, and sales representatives should be sure to thoroughly review Spacesaver’s detailed rail installation instructions (section IV).

A naval hospital needed a complete storage solution for its valuable inventory of surgical instruments and packed surgical kits. The officer in charge of the hospital’s surgical storage area required a storage system that would:

• preserve the instruments’ sterility and accessibility
• simplify inventory management while still remaining configurable and flexible, and
• fit in a constrained space with low ceilings.

The local Spacesaver design consultant created a solution to protect, organize, and provide easy access to the hospital’s surgical instruments. The solution consists of wire shelving on stainless steel ActivRAC with stainless rail, along with a Hänel system that stores surgical instruments in bins. The wire shelving units minimize dust accumulation, and the shelves are spaced to accommodate the packed surgical kits and make optimal use of the allotted space.
