Vol. 347: Putting A Lock On Effective Police Storage

A Unique Weapons Solution From A Proven Provider

The Salisbury, Massachusetts Police Department knew they needed a secure solution for weapons storage near their sally port that would help to address an accountability concern in relation to weapons brought into its facility. Familiar with Spacesaver’s product lineup, they reached out to their local Spacesaver representative to design a custom solution whose capabilities would go beyond the bounds of our standard Universal™ Weapons Rack (UWR®).

The end result was an engineered to order (ETO), custom weapons storage application measuring 90” x 18” x 42” and featuring double doors. The system incorporates Digilock’s Numeris Aspire shared-use control pad with deadbolt, which allows the department to boost accountability by tracking the date and time at which specific users accessed the system.

Vol. 343: Providing Basement Support for the USAF

Quick supply access keeps pilots from getting grounded.

We all have at least one spot in our lives where clutter buildup is inevitable. For many, it’s the basement as it provides an “out of sight, out of mind” drop off location for your things and is a space that’s rarely accessed.

But what if your basement needs to be accessed on a regular basis, and the “clutter” is actually valuable medical supplies used to keep you and your fellow soldiers healthy and ready for action? This was the case for the USAF’s Patch Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany whose basement storage areas were disorderly and inefficient, limiting quick access to vital equipment.

Spacesaver’s local consultants worked with the team at Patch Barracks to identify and provide solutions that would maximize the capacity and efficiency of its storage space.

Vol. 342: Indoor Hydroponic Farm

How a Start-Up Company Used GROW Systems for Leafy Greens.

When a researcher from Princeton and his business partner rented space in a large warehouse in Trenton, New Jersey, they had a mission to see how well they could grow leafy greens, fruits, and vegetables on indoor hydroponic systems. If all proved successful, they were planning to increase their operation to a larger scale.

They already had irrigation, lighting, and large “gutters” used to house the seedlings, so they needed a racking solution that could be incorporated with what they already had. They chose to work with Diversified Storage Solutions, Inc., their local Spacesaver distributor, to install four GROW mobile carriages with two sections each, and a 24” end carriage to make use of their space.

Once the system was installed, the existing irrigation was incorporated within Spacesaver’s steel system, and the gutters were hung at an angle from reinforcements above.

This solution allowed them to successfully grow their leafy greens indoors, and live bees were even added to the room for pollination!

Vol. 341: Decades of Reliability

Keeping court records organized and accessible in limited space.

Even in the digital age, paper records are an important part of the judicial process. To accommodate thousands of files in a small storage area, a Spacesaver powered mobile system was installed when this county courthouse was built in the early 2000s.

After nearly two decades of reliable operation, the system’s electronic components needed an update.

“It was a no brainer,” the clerk of courts said. “We don’t have a lot of room and our file volume is always increasing. It was imperative for us to have the system working so we could access the files and have enough space for them.”

Vol. 340: Replacing obsolete robotics

Keeping library materials accessible over the long term.

Back in the mid-2000s, this state university was one of the first libraries in the United States to install a robotic retrieval system. The planning and design team thought it would save money on labor costs in the long run. The only problem? The robotic system was obsolete soon after it was installed.

Vol. 338: Healthcare Solutions

Save space and promote best practices for patient care.

Space in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities is expensive: it’s expensive to design, expensive to build, and expensive to occupy. Every cubic foot that’s used for storage is space that could be used for patient care.

Take advantage of our new webinar and show your clients how Spacesaver can optimize space in healthcare facilities!

Vol. 337: Movable Work Table

Creating a flexible workspace in an archive.

Museum and archives staff often need work areas that can do double duty, particularly if space is limited. This movable work table provides a flat surface to lay out architectural plans and other documents, and the table can be moved out of the way to create a large open area to receive and process materials.

To accommodate a variety of active projects, the table features flat-file cabinets on one side and 4-Post shelving on the other.

Vol. 336: Creative science lab design

Convenient storage in a university’s new science building.

The design team for this university’s new multi-million-dollar science building had limited lab storage space to work with, so they called in the local Spacesaver consultant for advice.

He designed high-density mobile systems with “storefront” shelving and drawers for the most frequently accessed items, like glassware and other lab supplies and equipment.

The Spacesaver system consolidates and compactly stores essential items, providing more convenient storage and reducing the time needed to look for supplies and transport them to the labs. Now faculty and staff can quickly find what they need and spend more time teaching and planning.

Vol. 334: Museum drawers for flat files

Optimizing space in an off-site collections facility.

Maps, drawings, and other “flat files” often pose storage challenges for staff at museums and archives.

These items need to be stored in a way that:

  • Protects the items
  • Provides safe and convenient access
  • Doesn’t waste space
