Vol. 260: Modern Shelving for a School Library

A contemporary look at an affordable price

Spacesaver’s custom design and manufacturing capabilities create unique opportunities to collaborate with architects and designers. For instance, the architect for the library of this new public school in the Washington D.C. area wanted the library to have a modern, open feel while still staying within the school district’s budget.

The architect worked with Spacesaver’s in-house engineering team on the library’s layout as well as the design of custom cantilever shelving.

Vol. 259: Custom Air Force Pilot Lockers

Specialized storage to protect vital gear

U.S. Air Force pilots trust their lives to specialized gear like high-performance helmet systems and flight suits. Pilot gear needs to be stored properly to ensure that it stays organized, protected, and in perfect working order.

The Flight Chief from this Aircrew Flight Equipment section called in the local Spacesaver consultant to see if Spacesaver could design custom lockers for the nearly 60 pilots who were based there. They worked together and collaborated with Spacesaver’s engineers for several months to perfect the design.

Vol. 258: An Apparel Brand’s Product Library

Compact storage creates a more streamlined work environment

Like many other apparel designers, this lifestyle brand maintains an extensive product library at its headquarters. Samples of lounge wear, intimates, and activewear are stored on-site for eight seasons to enable designers and buyers to reference past products as they work.

The product library had been stored on the building’s second floor, even though conference rooms and other workspaces were located on the first floor. This resulted in a lot of wasted time as staff constantly moved items between floors.

Relocating the product library to the first floor would be more convenient, but the only available room on the first floor was much smaller than the upstairs storage area. The firm’s design and construction department called Spacesaver for help.

Vol. 255: Converting to High-Density Storage

Helping a client save funds and save space

Spacesaver specializes in designing and manufacturing custom storage solutions for virtually any need, but we can also help clients stay on budget by accommodating their existing storage systems.

This state’s transit authority uses a central facility to repair and maintain buses and other vehicles. Windshields are particularly difficult to store because of their large size and delicate nature, and the agency had invested in custom racks to keep windshields organized and protected. When the facility began running out of room, the supervisor called on a local Spacesaver consultant to help design a more efficient storage solution.

Vol. 254: Adaptive Equipment Storage

Helping a school serve special needs students

Schools often need to store adaptive equipment for special needs students. These items, such as wheelchairs, standing aids, and gait trainers, are essential for enriching students’ educational experiences, but they’re expensive and often unwieldy and difficult to store.

This school had a large room in which to store adaptive equipment, but the room was becoming cluttered and overcrowded. Teachers found it difficult to find what they needed, and the time they wasted looking for equipment and moving it around was cutting into their planning time.

Vol. 252: Custom GROW Mobile System

Increasing yield in limited square footage

This facility’s state-issued cannabis cultivation license restricted the grow area’s footprint to 3,000 square feet, but it didn’t limit the grow rooms’ volume. The founder decided to go vertical and grow on multiple tiers.

Spacesaver was the only mobile vertical racking provider that could manufacture a system robust enough to fill the grow rooms both horizontally and vertically.

Vol. 250: Custom Cabinets for Coin Collection

Modular cabinets offer space savings and a flexible design

Museum collections grow and change over time, so it’s important to equip collections storage areas with cabinets that can adapt to changing needs.

That was the case at this small museum, which needed a new storage solution for its coin collection, reference books, and preservation supplies. Spacesaver’s versatile 920 preservation cabinet was fitted with trays to provide compact storage for the coins, along with custom features to meet the museum’s other needs.

Vol. 249: High-Density Storage in Inpatient Pharmacies

Storing more drugs and supplies in less space

Space is always at a premium in hospitals, and regulations for hazardous drug storage have created an even greater space crunch in hospitals’ inpatient pharmacies. These pharmacies are usually “landlocked” inside hospitals with little or no room to expand.

Although every inpatient pharmacy is different, Spacesaver products are typically used in two areas: they store hazardous drugs efficiently and securely in the new rooms that must be constructed to bring these pharmacies into compliance with USP 800 regulations, and they also help recover space that was lost elsewhere in the pharmacies when the rooms were constructed.
