Vol. 270: Custom Readiness Lockers

Improving readiness and helping prevent property loss

Keeping track of government property that’s used by hundreds of soldiers can be a challenge, especially when soldiers have to store their gear at home. That was the case for the North Carolina National Guard.

With no central storage space for large mobility bags and other gear, soldiers had to take items home or store them in their vehicles, which led to missing gear and the resulting paperwork and lost time.

Vol. 269: Heavy-Duty Museum Storage

Saving and protecting museum objects, no matter the size

Sometimes a museum’s mission to protect and preserve artifacts, artwork, or natural history specimens results in the need to store a variety of exceptionally large or heavy objects. These objects can be cumbersome, but Spacesaver is here to help.

Local museum planning consultants can design compact mobile storage systems to optimize space and keep large objects organized and protected, just as they would for a typical museum collection.

Spacesaver’s mobile systems eliminate empty aisles to promote the efficient use of space while also maintaining the highest standards of organization, accessibility, and preservation.

Vol. 268: Building for the Future

Saving time and money by designing for high-density mobile systems

This library was originally designed to accommodate compact shelving, even though it wasn’t needed at the time of construction.

That advance planning paid off when the library was renovated ten years later. New Spacesaver high-density mobile systems allowed the library to hold twice as many volumes, add 200 more seats for students, and create a “smart” classroom with flexible learning spaces — all without making structural changes to the building.

Vol. 267: Evidence Lockers in Any Location

Providing end-to-end security at businesses and hospitals

Police departments and other law enforcement agencies use evidence lockers to keep evidence secure as it’s transferred from the responding officer to storage and eventually to the courtroom. But evidence lockers aren’t only for law enforcement facilities — businesses and hospitals use them, too.

With a variety of functional and aesthetic options, evidence lockers can provide end-to-end security anywhere it’s needed.

The colorful “pass-through” evidence lockers featured below were recently installed at a data center. Built into a wall, the lockers feature multiple doors on the front to keep hard drives organized and secure. A large mesh door on the back gives technicians convenient access to all the compartments.

Vol. 266: Pass-Through Gear Lockers

Saving time and improving military readiness

A creative approach helped improve readiness at this Air National Guard facility, where supply technicians needed to transfer expensive gear back and forth between helicopter pilots and the supply room.

They needed a secure solution that would function similarly to pass-through evidence lockers, in which items are deposited into a locker on one side of a wall and retrieved on the other side.

During a facility remodel, the architect worked with the local Spacesaver consultant to design lockers that were a perfect fit.

Vol. 265: Medical Storage Aboard the Comfort

Storing sterile supplies and pharmaceuticals aboard a Navy hospital ship

The USNS Comfort is a 1000-bed hospital ship that has been deployed on humanitarian missions around the globe.

It docked in Manhattan earlier this week to help relieve New York City’s overburdened healthcare system during the COVID-19 crisis — and Spacesaver systems are on board.

Read the Trailblazer to see how Spacesaver’s engineers and manufacturing professionals created safe, efficient storage systems for the ship’s pharmacy and sterile storage areas.

Vol. 264: Motorcycle Patrol Lockers

Convenient, right-sized lockers promote efficiency

When Salt Lake City began planning a new public safety building in the heart of downtown, all services for the police and fire departments had to be housed under one roof. Space was limited in the expensive urban area, so the design team put a major emphasis on efficiency.

Like many other areas around the building, the motorcycle garage needed to make efficient use not only of limited space, but also of officers’ time. That’s why the design team opted to install custom FreeStyle® Personal Storage Lockers from Spacesaver in the garage. With lockers located right next to the motorcycle parking spaces, officers could eliminate the extra time needed to walk back and forth between duty bag storage and the garage.

Vol. 253: High-End Golf Bag Storage

Creating a comfortable & convenient guest experience

Back when the world made sense, a planned community in Florida was building a new clubhouse for one of its golf courses. The project design team wanted to provide a convenient place for residents and their guests to store golf bags, and they wanted every aspect of the guest experience to reflect the fast-growing community’s commitment to comfort, ease, and quality.

Vol. 262: Parachute Racks on Casters

Portable storage for heavy hanging items

Spacesaver’s parachute racks aren’t only for parachutes, and they don’t have to just sit around. They’re designed to be sturdy enough to hold about 90 pounds per “arm,” which means they can accommodate a range of parachutes, backpacks, and other gear. They can be set on the floor, installed on compact mobile carriages to save space, or mounted on caster bases for ultimate flexibility.

Vol. 261: Art Screens on Cantilever Frames

Sturdy, compact storage for hanging art

Even with an extensive array of offerings, Spacesaver is still developing new ways to design and manufacture art racks. For instance, a new type of art rack was recently installed at this military museum.

By using Spacesaver frames that were originally designed for cantilever racks, the design team could extend the racks to ten feet tall while also eliminating the braces that typically extend into the screens and break up the space. In this way, they were able to create more than 300 square feet of unobstructed space on each side.

Mounting the racks and screens on a powered ActivRAC® Mobilized Storage System eliminated wasted aisles to provide even more storage space in the facility.
