Vol. 141: Library Electronics Upgrade
Spacesaver refreshes a university library’s high-density storage system
After providing reliable service for more than 20 years, the electronic controls on a Spacesaver high-density mobile storage system in a St. Louis university library required an upgrade.
The university opted to upgrade to Spacesaver’s Eclipse electronic system with Touch Technology™ Control. That’s because they knew the investment would significantly extend the life of the university’s assets at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a new high-density shelving system, and the streamlined conversion process would minimize disruption.

Vol. 140: HVAC integration
Architects sometimes want to specify ventilation systems that are more visually appealing than typical vents in floors, walls, or ceilings, or they might require a ventilation system that delivers heated or cooled air as evenly as possible over a large area. That was the case at the downtown public library in Vancouver, Washington, where Spacesaver’s engineers modified cantilever shelving bases to serve as vents. The library’s air handlers are located on the roof and the system pushes air down through the walls and under the floors, which are raised to accommodate computer cables and other building systems. The warm or cool air is then forced up from under the floor and out of the shelving bases throughout the building. This solution distributes air evenly throughout the library, creating a comfortable environment for patrons and staff. |

| Compact storage for a large resort Spacesaver’s high-density storage systems can be used in a variety of back-of-house applications at hotels and resorts. The Seattle-area Tulalip Resort Casino, for instance, uses five ActivRAC® systems in various areas around its property in Washington State. The general manager initially installed an ActivRAC® to store large tables, chafing dishes, and other banquet furnishings and equipment, and the system worked so well that he soon ordered four more systems for other areas. One of the newer systems is in the wardrobe room, where a 12-foot tall ActivRAC® makes efficient use of vertical space, providing storage for staff uniforms in a previously underutilized area. |
