Vol. 193: Weapons workbench

Creating a maintenance work area with WeaponWRX® Storage System

Weapons maintenance plays a vital role in law enforcement agencies. Keeping officers’ weapons in good working order helps ensure the safety of those officers and the general public, and routine maintenance also makes optimal use of taxpayer funds by extending the useful life of costly firearms.

When the police department in O’Fallon, Mo., was in the early stages of planning a new facility, one of the items on the officers’ wish list was a weapons workbench. They wanted to keep weapons organized and secure while technicians were working on them, and they needed storage for replacement parts and other supplies.

See the Spacesaver solution.

NOTE: Although not all WeaponWRX components are drawable in Configura, please consult the enhanced Planning Guide for a list of parts that can be added via Pick-List.

The stainless steel countertop was manufactured by a third party.

Vol. 192: ‘Color Vault’ at an ink manufacturing firm

Dramatically reducing retrieval time

Although business growth is generally a good thing, it can lead to inefficiency if storage systems aren’t re-evaluated periodically and adjusted to keep pace with current needs.

For instance, employees at this ink manufacturing firm had been accumulating small jars of every custom color they had made over the past 40 years. When customers requested a specific color, it took staff upwards of an hour to find it among the 16,000 jars that were stored on makeshift shelving across multiple buildings.

See how Spacesaver helped the firm consolidate, get organized, and reduce retrieval time.

Vol. 191: Secure storage for an NFL team

Doubling capacity while restricting access to confidential records

The front office of a National Football League team was storing confidential records in large wire cages at the stadium, but the team needed to free up space in the area to construct new offices.

The local Spacesaver consultant designed a system that:

  • Doubles storage capacity
  • Provides convenient access
  • Secures confidential files with card readers and PINs for authorized staff

NOTE: Card readers are drawable in Configura. In this case, Spacesaver was able to integrate the card readers with employees’ existing access cards. Contact us to see if your prospective client’s cards can be used with our system, or if we’ll need to design a workaround.

Vol. 190: Special Collections in a High-Bay Facility

Maintaining optimal preservation environments for a variety of materials

University libraries often serve as repositories for ever-growing archives and art collections, but at the same time they need to provide space for collaboration and technology.

Moving special collections and archives to climate-controlled offsite facilities is a smart way to provide optimal preservation conditions while also freeing up space on campus for modern uses. For instance, faculty and staff at Texas State University at San Marcos worked with Spacesaver to design systems that would organize and preserve not only books and journals, but also framed paintings, three-dimensional art, and archival materials.

Vol. 189: Variety of locker styles in one room

Vol. 188: Ventilated 4-Post ‘Cabinets’ for Science Labs

Keeping a university’s chemical supplies organized and secure

Colleges and universities need to store a variety of chemicals for use in lab classes and faculty research. Because such chemicals can be hazardous, they must be kept secure to prevent unauthorized access and they need to be stored in a well-ventilated location to prevent the accumulation of fumes.

This Midwestern university had been storing chemicals in a locked storeroom, but the room was becoming overcrowded. Faculty and staff asked the local Spacesaver consultant to design a new storage solution that would increase storage capacity, promote ventilation and security, and allow them to see items in storage.

Vol. 187: Mobile cutting table with drawers

Promoting organization and collaboration at a car design studio

When most people think about car design, they think about a vehicle’s exterior. But the interior must be thoughtfully designed, too, and prototyping helps designers choose fabrics and trim that are functional and comfortable while also reflecting a car’s overall look and feel.

A major automobile manufacturer’s design studio needed a large cutting table with  drawers to keep cutters, measuring devices, and other tools organized and easily accessible. They also wanted to be able to move the table around to accommodate large or unwieldy prototypes or groups of people collaborating on a project.

Vol. 186: 4-Post trays in a library’s archive

Cost-effective storage for odd-sized special collections

Many college and university libraries serve as repositories for their institutions’ archives and special collections. Items of historical interest can include architectural plans, works of art, and rare books.

Faculty and staff at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois, worked with their architect and their local Spacesaver consultant to design a secure area in the college’s new library to house archives and special collections. While the bulk of archival paper storage was housed on compact mobile shelving, the college also needed to store odd-sized items including plaques, dinnerware, and other objects associated with the institution’s history.

Vol. 185: Bunk Lockers for National Guard

Keeping personal gear organized, secure, and at the ready

When National Guard members are training, they have a lot of demands on their time and attention. Worrying about their gear should be the last thing on their minds.

The Minnesota National Guard wanted to provide its members with a sturdy, secure place to keep their personal gear organized and secure. They wanted the lockers to have the following features:

  • Perforated panels for ventilation
  • Secure internal compartment on upper shelf
  • Secure lower compartment with lift-up lid
  • Padlock hasps on door and compartments
  • Shelf, hooks, and hanger bar
  • Welded construction & double-wall steel door

Vol. 184: Parachute Racks with Tambour Doors

Optimizing space and security while promoting proper ventilation

Jumpers trust their lives to their gear, so parachutes need to be carefully packed, stored, and secured. Adequate ventilation is a key element of proper chute storage, particularly in humid climates, as moisture build-up can result in the growth of damaging mildew and mold.

The Spacesaver team created a unique solution for parachute storage at Moody Air Force Base in southern Georgia. Along with two large compact mobile systems, static RaptorRAC® Widespan Shelving units were fitted with parachute racks and tambour doors.
