The ninth edition of the Trailblazer focuses on the engineered-to-order product, Rail Lock.

The Rail Lock was an engineered-to-order (ETO) solution that has been produced in several different variations to accommodate the different needs of various end users.

The rail lock allows an end user to fasten the mobile system in a fixed position.  This provides added security for the items stored on the system, and also allows the user control of locking the carriage system in a certain position, if need be. There are different designs depending on the length of the rail lock that is needed.

End users are not limited to this one type of rail lock though. Spacesaver Storage Solutions recently worked with Spacesaver to create a revised version of the rail lock for the U.S. Marine’s new armory, which plans to utilize ActivRAC^® Mobile Storage for weapon storage. Look for a future Spotlight on this version of the rail lock.

The eighth edition of the Trailblazer addresses the topic of seismic activity in storage solutions.

The level of seismic hazards varies greatly across the United States, as seen in the map below. Seismic hazards influence the seismic risks of a building and its structures, including its storage systems.

Spacesaver has a wide-range of experience designing specially for seismic considerations, and recently standardized the Seismic B Anti-Tip (BAT) Rail.  This is the result of more and more buildings being planned for seismic considerations, including the Salt Lake City Public Safety Building. Designed to withstand a 7.5 magnitude earthquake, Spacesaver worked collaboratively to place mobile storage systems around the struts stabilizing the building.

This edition of the Trailblazer aims to recognize the engineered-to-order FreeStyle Personal Storage Lockers.

This week’s edition of the Trailblazer focuses on the Safety Locker.

The Safety Locker, a special FreeStyle Locker, was an engineered-to-order (ETO) product produced to fit a niche within the Public Safety and Education markets.  This project isn’t just uniquely an engineered product, but it also has a very resourceful sales application.

THE CHALLENGE: 
The La Crosse, WI PD needed a solution to discreetly and securely store an assault rifle for Liaison Officers in a school setting. The assault rifle not only needed to be safely locked in storage, but it needed to be quickly accessible. The solution has needed to have the ability to store temporary items.

THE SOLUTION:
FreeStyle Locker configured to have a lower cabinet large enough for long rifle storage, and two small upper compartments. A Digilock was put on the large cabinet and Combination Locks on the other two compartments.

THE BENEFITS:
The FreeStyle Locker format doesn’t give it a gun cabinet look, allowing School Liaison Officers to keep a rifle on site for emergencies. Rifles can be a crucial safety measure because they provide better accuracy and capacity than an Officer’s handgun. The Digilock provides safety and fast, convenient access for Liaison Officers.

APPLICATIONS:
School Liaison Officers, Courthouse buildings, airports, and hospitals staffed by sheriff departments.

The fourth edition of the Trailblazer focuses on FIFO Shelving on FrameWRX HD.

First in, first out (FIFO) shelving an cantilever tray shelf with acrylic front and bin dividers on FrameWRX HD, was an engineered-to-order (ETO) product produced to meet the storage needs of a Hospital Pharmacy.

Matt Thomas, of Spacesaver Intermountain, worked with Mark Kelleher and Brent Rusch, both of Spacesaver Corporation, to create the FIFO Shelving solution for a new Pharmacy. This ETO was able to solve the Pharmacy’s storage challenges by providing beneficial solutions to all their challenges.

THE CHALLENGE:

• Customer wanted more than the 3 additional sections of shelving that could be added to their previous 5 shelf FrameWRX system
• Customer wanted gravity fed shelving
• Easy access, with the ability to load prescription bottle in front, as well as, in the back
• Easy visibility into the storage system
• Various-sized prescription bottles would be stored in the same system

THE SOLUTION:

• FrameWRX HD with custom sloped shelves; standard sloped shelves do not support dividers
• Holes were punched in 2” increments, allowing for flexibility in the size of bottles the shelf could support
• Custom dividers were made to accommodate the customer’s need to supply bottles into the back of the system
• A sturdy 3” tall acrylic bin front was designed to support the bottles and provide visibility into the shelf; this front can be removed as needs change (This bin front was uniquely inspired by a shelving unit Matt Thomas saw at a convenience store displaying snacks (See Below))

THE BENEFITS:

• FrameWRX HD maximized their storage and allowed them to increase the bulk storage supply in the room
• Custom clear bin fronts and slanted shelves made it easy to read the labels. This will reduce the risk of errors
• Custom short dividers allowed the Pharmacy staff easy access to loading new medication into the back of the storage system
• A gravity fed shelf promotes first in, first out (FIFO) inventory management, eliminating expired items that are unnecessary waste

This notable ETO solution would not have been possible without the innovation and collaboration of Matt Thomas and Spacesaver Corporation.  The way Matt Thomas found inspiration in a convenience store’s storage, demonstrates how anyone can find storage ideas in everyday life.

This week’s edition of the Trailblazer focuses on Cantilever Carts.

Cantilever Carts are specially engineered and developed Cantilever Shelving systems. Cantilever Carts’ versatility and configurability offer a multitude of storage solutions and benefits.

Cantilever Carts Benefits include:

• Ability to be adapted, relocated, and expanded as needs change

Cantilever Carts are commonly used in Libraries for storage of books, magazines, and other media types.  But, with their benefits and customizability, Cantilever Carts could be a storage solution in many other applications.

Over the years, Spacesaver has developed numerous varieties of Cantilever Carts to meet storage needs.  Some projects have even utilized several different Cantilever Cart configurations for one location.  A great example of this is at the St. Louis Public Library’s Central Library.
