Vol. 181: Improving efficiency in a design studio

Space-saving solutions for a major auto manufacturer

When engineers, interior designers, and other design professionals are working on a design challenge, they need convenient access to materials so they can evaluate and compare potential solutions.

This major automobile manufacturer’s design studio needed storage for a variety of items, from leathers and fabrics to prototypes of doors and dashboards. Space consultants at the Los Angeles-based Spacesaver distributorship worked with the firm’s engineers and designers, along with Spacesaver’s engineering team, to create custom storage solutions that save space, promote efficiency, and encourage the creative process.

Key questions to ask your library prospects:

  • What is your collection development plan for print media? Do you intend to house these materials in your library or off-site?
    • The answer will help you propose the appropriate storage equipment.
  • What kind of student services and activities are you trying to create space for?
    • The answer might open up opportunities for additional sales.
  • Do you have Special Collections? What kinds of materials are in your Special Collections?
    • Key end-user concern here will be balancing preservation and access.

If you need assistance or coaching before a sales call, please feel free to contact Kelly Tomajko, Spacesaver’s Vertical Market Manager for Museums and Libraries, at ktomajko@spacesaver.com.

Vol. 179: Tambour Doors for Athletic Gear

Organizing and securing multiple sports in a high school addition

This high school athletics department needed a better way to store gear for multiple sports, so coaches and team managers jumped at the chance to re-think their storage soon after an addition was built onto the existing high school.
Security was one of their top priorities. Although theft at the school generally wasn’t a problem, they knew from experience that items could sometimes “disappear” when someone urgently needed an item that was in short supply in their team’s storage area. As a result of those experiences, the coaches and managers wanted separate locking sections for each sport so they would always know exactly what their teams had on hand.

Vol. 178: A Complete Collections Care Solution

Spacesaver helps a county museum improve its preservation environment

A county museum in suburban Chicago had been storing its collections in retrofitted agricultural buildings. When the museum had the opportunity to move to a renovated office building in a nearby city, staff made the most of their chance to design a collections area that would protect the collections for generations to come, while also optimizing the space.

Spacesaver provided everything the museum needed:
