Public safety buildings and other facilities that require secure personal storage now have a new keyless option: ETO electronic locks from Spacesaver. Providing convenient access via keypad and RFID card access, these locks eliminate the hassle of keys and combination locks and can be installed on any FreeStyle® Personal Storage Locker or Tactical Readiness Locker.
Most users access the lockers via PIN; RFID cards are intended for managerial use. Locks must be installed at the factory and pre-programmed for one of two uses.
The Blue Springs Police Department, located in suburban Kansas City, Missouri, needed a secure and convenient way to store officers’ long guns. The concept was to store the officers’ shotguns, sighted rifles, and other gear in a hallway near the patrol parking lot, so officers would not need to carry these items into the patrol briefing room, the locker rooms, or other areas of the police department.
Spacesaver offers a standard handgun and long gun cabinet, as well as a five-gun long gun cabinet, but the police chief preferred this engineered-to-order solution. It consists of a series of standalone cabinets that each store two levels of five guns, or ten guns total. Every police officer is assigned a compartment, and each cabinet also has a single large door that can be opened to provide access to all ten compartments at once. In case of an emergency, the police chief or the assistant chief can easily open entire cabinets, providing quick and convenient access to all the weapons stored inside.
The convenience and efficiency of the ActivRAC® Mobilized Storage System is particularly well-suited to cold storage and freezer facilities, where space is at a premium due to high cooling costs. ActivRAC has been steadily gaining popularity in beverage distributorships and other cold storage applications, and now Spacesaver’s Engineering Team has developed an electronic control system for use in freezers down to -20 degrees F. This option allows facility managers to optimize storage space while maintaining the highest standards of organization and selectivity.
This option is currently available as an engineered-to-order (ETO) solution, and Spacesaver expects to officially launch the product later this year. ColdPAK is available for the ActivRAC 30P, which can accommodate up to 30,000 pounds per carriage section, the ActivRAC 16P, which can hold up to 16,000 pounds per carriage section, and the ActivRAC 7P, which can hold up to 7,000 pounds per carriage section.
